Hello, and welcome to the first blog post about Stable Furniture on its very own website! This new website is very much a work in progress (as with the main David Stephenson Bespoke Furniture site), over the coming weeks and months more content will be added along with new designs as and when they have been developed. The ultimate goal behind Stable is to grow a basic range of stylish, useful and crucially affordable furniture, which sits well in today's small new build homes along with the larger houses of yesteryear.
Utilising beautiful solid oak and traditional time proven construction techniques such as the wedged mortice and tenon joint, each piece is designed to last, unlike a lot of the mass produced flat pack furniture on the market today, which generally falls apart after a few years and ends up as landfill. I also wish to incorporate other materials into the furniture, this allows me to work with other local craftsmen such as Martyn Dean the blacksmith whose forge is only 10 miles from my own workshop. Martyn produces the industrial style burnished steel footrests used on the bar stools, future designs currently in the pipeline will also incorporate his work. By keeping the designs smaller and more affordable I hope to open up the world of quality handmade furniture to a larger market sector, one which may typically be younger or simply have never considered buying furniture from an independent, professional craftsman before due to the perceived or real high costs involved. So there we go, a little insight into the Stable project, please do keep an eye on the website and look out for the next Stable blog sometime in the future!
